OilSpillLearn about plans to refine Ventura’s General Plan, get an update on the oil spill cleanup efforts in Midtown Ventura and find out why Ventura County is seeking a sales tax hike at the Midtown Ventura Community Council meeting on Thursday, July 14.

The meeting starts at 7 pm in Cooper Hall next to Grace Church, 65 MacMillan Street.

Community Development Director Jeff Lambert will talk about the General Plan Refinement that will go before the City Council later this month. The general plan, which is the blueprint for development in the city, is undergoing minor revisions. Among the changes that could impact Midtown residents are new guidelines for infill projects and the distribution of residential options in commerce and industry designated land use areas.

California Department of Fish and Wildlife is expected to provide an update on last month’s oil spill in Hall Canyon and the efforts to clean it up. Approximately 700 barrels of oil poured from a pipeline on June 23 owned by Crimson Pipeline. The cause of the leak remains under investigation.

The MVCC will also hear from Darren Kettle, executive director of the Ventura County Transportation Commission, about the half-cent transportation sales tax on the November ballot. Kettle will discuss the need for repairs and improvements to the transportation infrastructure.

Southern California Edison will discuss some upcoming reliability work the power company will be doing in the Midtown Ventura area.

The MVCC won't hold a meeting in August but will return September 8 with a City Council forum.
