A major sewerline replacement in Midtown Ventura and an update on the city’s water supply are the featured presentations during the Midtown Ventura Community Council’s meeting on Thursday, May 12.

Construction is about to start on a $2.2 million sewerline replacement project for Main Street between Brent Street and Lemon Grove. Replacing the aging sewerline is necessary as the new Community Memorial Hospital opens in early 2017.

Loree Pryce, construction and survey manager for the city of Ventura, will discuss the construction process and what the contractor, Toro Enterprises Inc., will do to minimize the impact on businesses and residents. Construction starts this month and is expected to be completed in late fall.

More than 5,100 linear feet of pipelines and 25 manholes are being replaced in the Main Street area. Pavement repair will be limited to the trenched area.

Residents will also get a report on Ventura’s water supplies as the expected El Nino for Southern California fizzled out. Joe McDermott, Ventura Water assistant general manager, will update the city’s current water resources and projected usage. McDermott is also expected to address the city’s Net Zero Fee that is being considered for new development projects. The proposed fee would offset the cost of obtaining new water sources for a development.

And since we’re talking water, Ventura’s Jill Sarick will educate residents on what they can do to keep conserving water and talk about the latest Ocean Friendly Garden now going in at Juanamaria School.
