April 11, 2024, 7 p.m.

Ventura Mayor Erik Nasarenko will be the featured speaker at Thursday night’s Midtown Ventura Community Council meeting, which also includes a presentation on CAPS Media and an update on the stalled Green Street project.

Erik NasarenkoNasarenko, who took over as mayor in December, will speak about the City Council considering a half or full cent sales tax increase that could be placed on the November ballot. Ventura’s current sales tax is 7.5 percent.

Nasarenko said the additional money, which could bring $10 million a year to Ventura, could be used to fix aging roads, hire more police officers and complete Ventura Community Park on the eastside.

Following the mayor’s presentation, Patrick Davidson will speak about CAPS Media how the nonprofit community access channel is expanding its programming. Davidson, CAPS’ executive director, will speak about getting the community involved and how to use the studio to produce their own videos to be aired.

Residents will also get an update on the Green Street project on Hartman Drive, which has been slowed by construction delays. Loree Pryce, city of Ventura Construction and Survey Manager, along with Brian Brodersen, landscape architect, will discuss the timeline and the final phase of the project.

The meeting starts at 7 pm Thursday in Grace Hall, 65 MacMillan Ave.
