ThompsonSupervisor Steve Bennett will speak about efforts to get SOAR laws on the ballot and a proposed apartment building for Thompson Boulevard is on the agenda for the Midtown Ventura Community Council meeting in February.

The meeting will take place February 11 at 7 pm in Cooper Hall at Grace Church, 65 MacMillan Avenue.

Supervisor Bennett, one of the co-authors of Save Open-Space and Agricultural Resources (SOAR), will talk about the history of the land-use initiative and the efforts by volunteers to get the initiative on the November ballot. Ventura voters passed a SOAR initiative in 1995 that required any land that any land zoned agricultural or open space cannot be rezoned without voter approval.

Residents will also see plans for a 12 unit apartment complex adjacent to Discovery Bowl on Thompson Boulevard. The project would replace an old service station at 1926 E. Thompson Blvd., which the city is currently using to store plants and materials.

The board will update plans on Midtown Commons and get an update on crime in Midtown Ventura from the Ventura Police Department.
