Hillside FrontThe Midtown Ventura Community Council will have presentations at its meeting Thursday on the Ventura Hillside Conservancy, the City’s 150th anniversary celebration and revisions to the proposed Midtown Commons project.

David Comden, president of the Ventura Hillside Conservancy, will present an overview of the nonprofit organization, its mission and the work the group is doing in the Ventura River bottom. Comden will briefly discuss the potential 547-acre land donation by Regent Properties, if the company receives approval to develop 55 luxury homes on the hillside.

Elena Brokaw, director of parks/recreation and the community partnerships department, will update the City’s plans for the 150th anniversary celebration. Various community organizations, including the MVCC, have special events planned to market the occasion on April 2, 2015.

Landscape architect Brian Brodersen of Brodersen Associates and architect David Ferrin of Arketype Architects will share revisions to Midtown Commons. The MVCC is proposing a major landscaping project to an aging city parking lot on South Katherine Drive just off Thompson Boulevard. The proposal will need city approval and will be done in phases with the aim to have the first phase completed in time for the City of Ventura’s 150th anniversary celebration.

The MVCC meets Thursday at 7 pm in Cooper Hall, 65 S. MacMillan Ave.
