A proposed water shortage event for the City of Ventura and the state of homelessness in Ventura are among the topics the Midtown Ventura Community Council will discuss at its meeting on Thursday, May 14.

Because of the crippling drought California has been experiencing the past four years, the city is considering a Water Shortage Event. Joe McDermott, Ventura Water assistant general manager, will discuss what a Water Shortage Event means, the future of the city’s water supply and water rates. Residents are urged to attend the meeting to get a better understanding of the drought’s impact on the city’s water supply.

The MVCC will also hear from Councilman Neal Andrews about the homeless situation and Ventura’s efforts to manage it. Homeless on street corners is an all-too-common site and the city of Ventura has a third of the county’s homeless population, according to the Ventura County 2014 Homeless Count and Survey. The good news is that the numbers are declining thanks to efforts to find housing for the homeless or reunite them with families.

Denise Sindelar, community partnerships manager, will speak about the city’s adopt-a-box program and the long-term plans to build a library on the eastside.

The MVCC meeting starts at 7 pm in Cooper Hall next to Grace Church, 65 MacMillan Ave.
